JOHNSON WOOLEN MILLS was featured on John Ratzenberger's "Made in America" series on The Travel Channel on May 4th and May 8th, 2004.  The Vermont Journal Newspaper featured this article about Johnson Woolen Mills TV Debut just prior to the airing:

"Johnson Woolen Mills makes Travel Channel debut --

JOHNSON—Harley Davidson. Ivory Soap. Milton Bradley Monopoly board games. John Deere Tractors. Most Americans have used at least one of these products, but have they thought about where it was made? Scores of products are American made, but what gives an American product staying power? Jump into your Airstream trailer and hit the road with host John Ratzenberger as he reveals the answers when Travel Channel’s MADE IN AMERICA premieres.

Best remembered as Cliff Clavin in the sitcom "Cheers", John Ratzenberger becomes the ultimate American worker in this new series, going into the factories and working side-by-side to create Welch’s Grape Juice, build with Craftsman tools, test a new set of Goodyear tires, and make a Johnson Woolen Mills coat.

Ratzenberger, who has a profound love for the ingenuity that goes into manufacturing, uses his humor, wit and enthusiasm as he uncovers the history behind some of the most recognized icons in America and persuades many of the workers to talk about what it is like to make some of the classic American products.

“These are the people who really built America, who get up every morning and work their hearts out every day”, Ratzenberger said. “They get their hands dirty and they are great at what they do. They take pride in their workmanship, and there’s nothing like it”.

Travel Channel’s MADE IN AMERICA serves up snapshots of the people and places that are the backbone of the American economy. The new series travels from town to town, highlighting the unique niche each product has found in a popular culture. Ratzenberger provides viewers with an intimate portrait of the American worker, focusing on the craft and the level of skill, pride and dedication workers bring to the manufacturing process, as they create a multitude of products that Americans, and the rest of the world, have come to depend on.

Travel Channel Executive Vice President and General Manager Rick Rodriguez said, “There is a thirst for knowledge about how American products got started and how they are made. Coming from a hard-working blue-collar family, John Ratzenberger has a genuine appreciation for inventors and craftsman. This series was a labor of love which honors the creative and entrepreneurial spirit of America”

Johnson Woolen Mills was on John’s list of stops last fall. John toured the factory store and picked out a jacket that caught his eye and looked fabulous on him. He and his film crew of five then worked all day filming the production of John’s jacket. John helped in the layout of the pattern, cutting and putting together of his own coat. He was very personable with everyone and asked lots of questions.

By the end of the day, he knew everyone by their first name and a little bit about their families and where they were from. John has a big place in his heart for Vermont and said, “ Vermont is a part of my growing up. I learned a lot of good life lessons here”. So, look for John and the Johnson Woolen Mills May 4th at 9:00 pm. on The Travel Channel and repeating on May 8th at 3:00 pm."
